Registration and Tuition

To register, download, complete and mail the registration form.  The Institute will send a registration confirmation upon receipt of your tuition and the deadline date of the class.  Detailed class information will be sent at least two weeks prior to the course date.

Tuition for each program is listed immediately after program descriptions. It is calculated on a break-even basis and includes a $50 nonrefundable registration fee. For residential programs, the Institute cannot provide discounts to participants who arrange alternate lodging, unless a commuter option is noted with the tuition. Please feel free to inquire of any discount possibility.  Attendance at programs and overnight accommodations are for paid registrants only.

Tuition is on a per-person basis and programs proceed rain or shine.  Refunds will be provided for participant cancellations received 31 or more days before the start date, minus a $50 registration fee.  No refunds will be given for cancellations received 30 days or less prior to the start date.  If the Institute is forced to cancel, participants will receive a full refund or transfer option.

Early registration is encouraged as we operate on a first-come, first-served basis. We keep classes small to ensure quality and enjoyment. Class size is generally a minimum of 8 and maximum of 15.

SPONSORSHIP

Additional support may be sought from conservation organizations, community groups, or your employer who may be willing to sponsor your enrollment.  The Institute encourages you to seek sponsorship within your community.

EDUCATIONAL CREDIT AND CLOCK HOURS

The Institute is approved by the PA Department of Education to grant teachers ACT 48 Continuing Professional Education credit hours.  The number of credit hours is mentioned in the program description and included in the tuition.  Some programs may be approved for academic credit through Cedar Crest College. The number of available credits is listed at the end of the program description.  Cedar Crest College charges a per credit fee and you must register through Cedar Crest College.

RISK AND RESPONSIBILITY

Participants should expect to spend most of the class outdoors so please plan and dress accordingly.  Participants assume full responsibility for their own safety and are required to sign a health, risk and release waiver before the class begins.

WEATHER

We believe that there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing. Our programs proceed rain or shine. Appropriate rain gear, clothing and footwear are very important. A clothing list will be included in your class letter.

SAFETY AND FIELD STUDIES

All of our programs are conducted in the field and may include moderate walking or hiking over uneven terrain. Participants should be prepared to spend full days outdoors, and be in reasonably good condition.  Otherwise, participants should list their limitations or challenges and special needs prior to class on their registration and health form.

Remember: We share the natural world with mosquitoes, black flies, ticks, snakes, inclement weather or other unpredictable natural elements. Protective clothing, sunscreen, raingear, and insect repellent are advised. While every effort is made to prevent mishaps and ensure safety, participants must assume full responsibility for their own safety and must provide their own health and accident insurance. You will be asked to sign a safety waiver located on your health form before the course.
